Week Eight
This week for the week eight blog post, I decided to listen to "A Change Is Gonna Come," by Sam Cooke. I already had this song downloaded on my phone which once again shows that the song choices are only getting better! I am actually a big fan of Sam Cooke. The first song I heard from him was "Having a Party" and it was while I was at a family grocery store close to my home town as it was playing over the speakers. I liked the song/artist so much that I decided to get out my phone and search for the song myself! I came to learn about Sam Cooke and ever since that time I have really loved his music! This song in particular is one of my favorites from him and I really like the message. It is a sad song, as far as all the bad things and "hard living" that he has gone through, but he holds an optimistic view throughout the message and life of the song. I think everyone can relate to that message as we all go through some hard times, but I think it's important to note that there's always something good coming in life. It might be preceded by hardship or trial, but if we hold on to hope, a lot of good can and will come, "oh yes it will." I also really like the intro to "A Change Is Gonna Come," as there are a lot of instruments that come together to create what sounds like a complete orchestra of sounds! All together, I think the song is a great one for the books!
It is so cool to me that we are beginning to get into music that more people are familiar with, just like you with this song! Listening to it in class was indeed powerful, and I loved Aretha Franklin's version of the song just as much as Sam Cooke's. I agree with your take on the song; that the orchestra and symphony just combines to make a beautiful masterpiece of change in the world.
